Lt. Cmdr. Colleen Johnson joined the Navy in Johnson City, Tenn., December 1997. She was commissioned through the Navy’s Limited Duty Officer’s Program.
Lt. Cmdr. Johnson’s assignments while enlisted include: Information Systems Technician aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) in Norfolk, Va., followed by Defense Messaging System Administrator at Navy Computers and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic (NCTAMS LANT). She served as Information Systems Technician Leading Petty Officer for Pre-Commissioning / Commissioning crew on board USS Freedom (LCS-1) in San Diego, Calif., completing the ships Maiden Sail Around Deployment.
Lt. Cmdr. Johnson’s operational, sea and leadership tours while commissioned include: Electronic Key Management System Manager / Communications Officer on board USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) in Bremerton, Wash. She served as a Battle Watch Captain and Current Operations Officer in Charge at Defense Information Systems Agency-Europe (DISA EUR) in Stuttgart, Germany, followed by a Global War on Terrorism Support Assignment (GSA) as a forward deployed J6 supporting Overseas Contingency Operations. From there she headed to San Diego, Calif., where she was the Communications and Information Systems Officer (CISO) on board USS Boxer (LHD-4). After her milestone tour, she was an in-residence student at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, R.I., where she received her Masters of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies. She then served as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff J6 for Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO).
Lt. Cmdr. Johnson’s personal awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal (two), Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (five), as well as several campaign medals and unit awards.
